Exclusive Interview with Promise Kenneth-Odum

Today we’d like to introduce you to Promise Kenneth-Odum.

It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?

My name is Promise Kenneth-Odum popularly known as Rukkies “the celebrity florist “ I am from cross river state Nigeria, CEO Rukkies House, Owners of : Rukkiesdecor, Rukkiesluxrybouquets and Rnbighairs. I started my entrepreneurship journey officially at age 17, I am the last child of 12 kids but growing up I hated begging or being at anyone’s mercy for my needs to be catered for because I get truly embarrassed and emotional when I get a No, this was all the motivation I needed to start earning my own money, so I started hustling, from being an usher at events, to modeling and then getting my own modeling and event agency with my own registered models and hostesses, fast forward to 2013 when I was in my 2nd year in university , I had one of my major breaks I got one of the biggest gig at the time to host one of the biggest Niger delta conferences in Nigeria. I Made so much money from this and other gigs and saved up and moved to lagos were I did my NYSC and started my first business ever that is Rnbighairs, this business got me my first car in 1year, i mean an SUV. Fast forward to 2019 Rnbighairs gave birth to the brand that has made me known Globally and that’s the RUKKIESDECOR brand. Rukkiesdecor is AFRICA’s leading floral production and design company. We have worked with a variety of multinational brands, Top Hotels,Restaurants, Lounges and high profile individuals.

I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?

Running a business like mine is not for the weak, when I started Rukkiesdecor my major challenges used to be funds and getting the right suppliers for the kind of products I wanted to put out there for my designs and I used to do 90 percent importation, sometimes what the suppliers deliver will either be low quality, or cargo will ruin the fragile flowers,plants and decor props or suppliers will ask I meet up a certain MOQ before they can produce my designs. But guess what? We now do 50 percent importation as we now produce locally with high quality materials too, suppliers from different parts of the world now send us proposals and are ready to send huge samples for free, we have major wholesalers from different parts of Africa coming to our showroom to buy our products in bulk. What changed? I stayed consistent, even when i made losses I didn’t stop I kept pushing, most importantly i didn’t stop giving people value for their money.

Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?

Rukkiesdecor is Africa’s leading floral production and design company: we produce and design artificial floral wall, plant walls and decor props. Our designs are different because we use high quality artificial flowers and plants that people mistake them for real flowers that’s how good we are, want to know why people fly us from all over the world just to come transform their space? Is because our designs are unique, rare, high quality and durable.

What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?

Be consistent! Be original, give value, I mean why do you want people to choose you among 10,000 other options? Give them value! Be original and be in their faces everyday!

Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?

For me success is not just about having billions in your account, success to me is the lives I have impacted positively, the millions of people that have grown and become successful through me and this millions of lives includes me too!

What’s next for you?

I think Rukkiesdecor is done scratching the surface, the Rukkies brand has dominated Africa to an extent, by end of 2023 we should have dominated Africa fully and then move to other parts of the world.
