Exclusive Interview with To The Kingdom (T.T.K.)

Today we’d like to introduce you to To The Kingdom (T.T.K.).

It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?

It is our pleasure and honor to speak with you today as well. Thanks for taking your time to interview us. Let us introduce ourselves, we are Tamika, Tineka, and Kaylah and together we are T.T.K. (To the Kingdom?) We are three sisters in Christ in the Dallas, TX area who met at church; specifically as members of the choir and praise team. Shortly after meeting we joined a songwriter’s group in our local church called Remnant. It was never our intention to pursue music full-time; we all just loved singing for the Lord and worshiping him genuinely. After being asked by recording artists such as Elroi Jonez and others to sing background vocals on their projects, the three of us then began to tap into the gifts that God gave us individually, and through the Holy Spirit, developed music that blended our distinctive sounds together; thus giving birth to a version of Christian Soul that we and others had never heard before.

I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?

You are correct, success never comes easily. There are always challenges and a few we have had to overcome are staying the course to see this project through to completion. We had to remain committed to the rigorous schedule for writing and developing the art while balancing our home life, careers, taking care of our families, all while teaching, encouraging and supporting one another as members of a group. Although we are part of the same church family and take part in a lot of things together, having to work together at this level, depth and consistency week over week, we had to gain an understanding of one another on a deeper level. Which meant we had to become vulnerable to one another, and that is not always easy amongst women. But, all praises to God we were able to do just that and now have such a close bond spiritually and are truly become sisters in every sense of the word!

Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?

TTK specializes in ushering in the spirit of praise and worship and making music for the soul. We strive to produce beautiful harmonies with thought-provoking lyrics that we are proud to say, we write ourselves. You should collaborate with us if you want to go on a journey and not just make a song. When collaborating with us you will have an experience that brings a level of professionalism and humility which allows us to listen, learn and produce quality work for the ministry of God. We present a genuine sense of modesty for women in Christ because we allow him to be at the forefront of why we are doing this. Partnering with us is so much more than just making music; it is true ministry. See, we are singers for the kingdom of God and our mission is that souls will be drawn to the kingdom for his glory. As a Christian-soul group that has recently merged onto the scene, we would say the thing that makes us unique is that when you hear us, our music transcends genres to everyday listeners. You can play our music at the family reunion, the cookout, or any venue of your choice and feel great and inspired before you even realize it.

What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?

When desiring to find success in life we would say to seek the kingdom of God first and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Then start by asking Him what His will is for your life. Next, ask yourself if the things you aspire to do will contribute to Kingdom building. Stay committed no matter what because consistency is key. Remember to always keep on pushing, especially when things get uncomfortable and unfamiliar. Surround yourself with those who have knowledge to pour into you because we suffer from a lack of knowledge. If you are truly called to do a thing, and you know that you know it is God who put the desire in your heart, then you have to trust every setback is a setup and every trial is a testimony in the making. As long as you keep on pressing towards the mark, the Lord will make good on his promises, like he always does. Make sure you always remain humble in the work you do; without humility, one can find themselves exalted above Christ who has given you the talents you are utilizing. But most importantly, keep Christ first in your life and you will have the success you are supposed to have according to him and the purpose he has for your life. We realized through this project that because we planned, and stuck to the plan, with the help of the Holy Spirit, we were able to execute. Finally,

Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?

The word success is extremely broad. Some may consider success as being wealthy. Although being financially stable is a bonus, it is more important to us to walk in purpose. Being able to edify others with the gift that he has blessed us with, and in the capacity that he has given it is a true mark of success. Add to that, when we have a goal that was set and accomplished and see the fruits of that labor and can see how many people have increased in their lives and spirits along the way because of our decision to keep going, that becomes an immeasurable level of success. If our music reaches one soul that decides to follow Christ, then we have done what God has put us here to do. The ultimate success for TTK is getting to the kingdom and hearing well done thy good and faithful servants!

What’s next for you?

What is next for TTK is to continue promoting our newly released album “The Journey” and creating visuals that will take our supporters on a more heightened Journey that brings our music to life. Of course we intend to continue performing at more shows, getting more airplay, increasing our presence by reaching milestones on the billboard charts is also a focus.
