Mental Health Speaker Jared Scott is Changing Lives

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jared Scott.

It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?

I started my speaking career when I was a teenager after my home town experienced a suicide epidemic. We had 4 kids around my age die by suicide in 1 month. 2 of them I knew personally. I’m passionate about what I do because after this happened, no one had any answers. That used to upset me but as I got older I realized that the people around me didn’t have the answers to give. Where I grew up most adults weren’t taught anything about mental health when they were kids, so they weren’t equipped with the knowledge they needed to help me or anyone else. I immediately saw the need for social and emotional learning programs in schools and it quickly became my focus. I started speaking and writing music geared towards the conversation of mental health and inspiring others to talk about their feelings. After high school I went to college for a behavioral health science degree to give better answers to my audiences. And my dream is to help reinvent the world of mental health without the stigmas.

I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?

At the moment, there is a significant transition taking place in the educational system that is unlike any cultural shift that has ever taken place in the past. Fear, anxiety, despair, and stress are all more prevalent among students and staff than at any previous period in history. Because of the difficulties we are now facing, we have gained a better understanding of the significance of social and emotional development, mindfulness, and positive thinking. Making others feel hopeful through the use of my skills and experience is both my profession and my goal. Conquering my own self-doubts and fears has been the obstacle I’ve found to be the most difficult to overcome. After beginning to take responsibility for my own mental health and making an effort to better understand who I am, I was able to seek the assistance I needed. That’s when I discovered that the secret to success is to know oneself inside and out. When you know yourself, you are aware of what you need and are able to request help because of this. You should prioritize removing the internal obstacles that are preventing you from seeing what’s possible for you since this is the most essential thing you can do for your vision.

Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?

I feel that individuals choose to work with us rather than the competition because we take the time to get to know our clients and design a program that is tailored to meet their individual needs. Because of my education and expertise in behavioral sciences, I am able to recognize the difficulties that people are experiencing, which enables me to determine the subjects on which I should speak to them and the skills that I should pass on to them. My clients receive a uniquely tailored version of my workshops or speeches in order to help them achieve their objectives and triumph over the specific obstacles they face. My area of expertise is the development of social and emotional learning programs, which are geared toward assisting individuals in becoming more capable of managing their thoughts and emotions. After 12 years of experience, I’ve learned that the most effective way to change the environment and culture of your campus or office is to make sure that your leaders are equipped with all of the tools necessary to recognize and overcome the challenges they face daily; challenges they face within themselves, challenges they face within their colleagues, and challenges they face within their students. This is the most efficient way to create the real change that you desire.

What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?

Get to know yourself so you can love yourself, respect yourself, and accept help for yourself. Respect is defined as admiration for someone’s qualities, characteristics, and achievements. In other words, if you don’t know someone, it can be difficult to respect them. If you don’t know yourself, you can’t truly respect yourself, and if you don’t respect yourself, you don’t have any respect to give to others. Whatever you desire from the world, you must first learn to give it to yourself, which includes love, respect, and even help. If you want to succeed in life, you must become your own best friend and biggest fan. After all is said and done, you must be able to live with yourself. I recognized when I was young that I was afraid of myself, which is why I didn’t want to be alone. I didn’t know who I was, therefore I was a stranger, and strangers equal danger, so I was a threat to me. I was the one who was getting in my own way and preventing myself from being happy or successful. I was able to ask for help when I needed it after learning to love and respect myself since I didn’t want to go without. That is when my life began to turn around and I began to appreciate myself more, which, in my opinion, is the very definition of success.

Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?

Over the course of my life, my definition of success has shifted several times. My concept of success evolves in tandem with my responsibilities. Nowadays, I associate success with freedom. That is why I chose a career in which I am my own boss and have the opportunity to travel where I want to go. Everyone, I suppose, is looking for freedom. If you desire more money, what you really want is more freedom so I’ve shifted my focus to freedom, and I think about it in all of my endeavors. If it is going to pay me money but take away my freedom, it is no longer worth it to me. If someone offered me $100 billion but I had to die tomorrow, I would definitely decline since time is more valuable than money to me. Another example: if someone offered me $100 billion but required me to cut off all contact with my friends and family for the rest of my life and be alone, I would decline since relationships are more valuable than money to me. When I recognized this, I changed my perspective and concentrated on freedom, the more time I have to spend doing what I want with the people I care about, the more free and successful I am.

What’s next for you?

My next step is to lead leaders. Assisting other influential people in making an impact. When we work together, life becomes easier, lighter, and better, so my new mission is to influence the influencers. I used to have a lone wolf mentality that marginalized me when I was younger, but now I realize that this isn’t even possible without the help of others. I’m growing my team and expanding my business to reach more people. I’m writing books and courses to teach others how to do what I do and accomplish what I’ve accomplished. My intention is to train other speakers to have even greater impact than I have. Although I am only 27 years old, I have been doing this for 12 years and have something to offer. This next stage of life is all about realizing childhood dreams now that we have the resources, time, and money to do so. My main mission of mental health will never change; in fact, I hope to build a team that will rebuild the world of mental health without stigmas, making it safe and acceptable for everyone to discuss their mental health.
